The Wake Forest University School of Law Domestic Violence Advocacy Center is hosting its annual raffle from 9:30-11:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 23, at the Old Winston Social Club.
Domestic violence impacts the lives of many of our friends and neighbors, according to Anna Penland, event organizer and DVAC member.
“More than 20,000 people in our community seek safety from their abusers each year,” she says. “Domestic violence shelters are in dire need of funds to stay open and available to our community members, and we hope you’ll join us in supporting their wonderful work.”
This raffle will help raise money for Winston-Salem’s local shelter, and 100 percent of the proceeds will be donated. Tickets are one for $1, six tickets for $5, 13 tickets for $10, 20 tickets for $15 or 26 tickets for $20.
The prizes are gift certificates or items from local businesses. “We will also be selling tickets to last-minute buyers at the door,” Penland explained. “You do not have to be in attendance to claim your prize. If your ticket is drawn, you will get your prize even if you are in bed instead.”
Penland added that the raffle will be Mardi Gras themed this year and snacks will be provided. A cash bar will be available.
“So come ready have some fun, eat some food, drink some drinks, and help us raise money for a great cause,” she said.
