Leary Davis (BA ’64, JD ’67), founding dean of the law schools at Campbell and Elon universities, died on July 20, 2017, of leukemia and Hodgkin’s lymphoma at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill. He was 75. He is believed to be the only person to be the founding dean of two law schools, according to news reports.
An interview in 2005 for North Carolina Lawyer magazine was republished on the North Carolina Bar Association’s website as a tribute.
Davis is survived by his wife, Joy, three adult children and six grandchildren. A celebration of his life will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday at Zebulon Baptist Church in Zebulon, North Carolina.
