Alex Alden (JD ’20) of Basking Ridge, New Jersey, wins the 2017 1L Trial Bar Competition

Alex Alden (JD ’20) of Basking Ridge, New Jersey, is the winner of the 2017 1L Trial Bar Competition Finals, sponsored by the Wake Forest Student Trial Bar.

The final argument was held at 5 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 28, 2017, in the Worrell Professional Center between Alden and Phillip Jester (JD ’20), of Charlotte, North Carolina.  Superior Court Judge David Hall presided.

Both competitors represented Wake Forest Law admirably, said Judge Hall, who was impressed with this year’s finalists and praised them both for their mastery of the case and oral advocacy skills.

Elite 8 contestants included Alden, Hester, Zachary Harris, Matthew Hooker, Melissa Malone, Augustine Martinez, Tim Misner and Cole Tipton.

The 2017 1L Trial Bar Chairs were Ashley DiMuzio (JD ’19), Caleb Hodge (JD ’19) and Gilbert Smolenski (JD ’19).
