Pro Bono Project encourages students to participate in ABA National Pro Bono Week beginning Monday, Oct. 23

Wake Forest School of Law will celebrate the American Bar Association (ABA) National Pro Bono Week by holding events sponsored by the Pro Bono Project during the week of Monday, Oct. 23. “All law students are encouraged to participate in the week’s events sponsored by the Pro Bono Project,” says Jasmine Gregory (JD ’18), deputy director of the Pro Bono Project.

Members of the Pro Bono Project will host a table to offer public interest resume advice and encourage students to log hours from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday, Oct. 23, through Thursday, Oct. 26, in the Law Commons. Other events include a naturalization information session to refugees, a Know Your Rights presentation at Atkins High School, a Teen Court Session, VITA and Lawyer on the Line training and a “Just 4 You Day” with Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center for cancer patients, among others.

Additionally, the Pro Bono Project will host local attorneys and community partners at a Pro Bono Project Community Partner/Attorney Appreciation Reception from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 24,  in the Law Commons.

Event: Incorporate Pro Bono on Your Resume / Log Your Hours Drive
Where: Law School Commons
When: Monday, Oct. 23rd – Thursday, Oct. 26th 
Time: 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. 
Details: Join the Wake Forest Pro Bono Project every day during National Pro Bono Week to learn about how to highlight your pro bono achievements on your resume and in interviews with potential employers. The PBP will also have laptops & tablets available for students to log their hours. 
Event: Community Partner Reception
Where: Law School Commons
When: Tuesday, Oct. 24th 
Time: 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. 
Details: The Wake Forest Pro Bono Project will welcome local & supervising attorneys for an event with current students and Project Coordinators. For students interested in attending, please contact Marisa Stern by 7 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 23rd. 
Project: Immigration (Naturalization) 
Coordinators: Samantha Poon and Ray Dunn
Event: Naturalization Clinic 
Date: Tuesday, Oct. 24
Time: 6-7:30 p.m.
Location: Glenwood Branch Library (1901 W. Florida St) in Greensboro 
Details: Students will participate in and present a naturalization information session to refugees and other interested individuals. Students will then assist attendees with a preliminary naturalization screening form. Training is required. 
Project: Healthcare Advocacy
Coordinator: Hailey Cleek
Event: “Just 4 You Day” (with Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center) 
Date: Tuesday, Oct. 31 
Time: 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. (set up will begin as early as 8:30 a.m. 
Location: Comprehensive Care Center – Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center
Details: The goal of this event is to help cancer patients and caregivers to discover all the supportive help that is available to them at the Comprehensive Cancer Center and out in the local community. There will be many activities at this event: games to play, special music, display tables for patients/caregivers to gather free educational information from. Estimated attendance is 400/450.
Project: Expungements

Event: Expungement Clinic Roundtable (group of 10-12 to review records)

Project: Teen Court

Project: Prison Letters

Event: Lunch & Learn Session for Prison Letters
Date: Thursday, Oct. 26
Time: 12 – 1 p.m.
Location: Room 1101 (NOTE – reservation request pending) 
Details: Whether you’re already involved in Prison Letters or want to learn more, bring your lunch on Thursday, October 26. Students already participating in the project can come in for extra help or just for a little motivation to knock out a few letters. Students wanting to participate can learn more and be trained. Completed letters can be returned during this session, and new letters will be assigned.  
Project: Lawyer on the Line

Event: LOTL Tabling Day
Date:  Tuesday, Oct. 24
Time: 12 to 1 p.m. 
Details:  Mike will join the Student Outreach Team and talk to interested students plus provide them access to the on-demand training videos that meet Legal Aid’s requirements. He also want to allow students to ask questions.
Project: Know Your Rights

Event: KYR Presentation 
Date: Friday, Oct. 27
Time: 9 a.m. and 12 p.m. 
Location: Atkins High School
Details: The KYR Project will give two presentations on Friday, Oct. 27th at Atkins high school to students. To participate as a presenter, please contact Darius Lamonte or Brooke Driver.
