Three law students named to the 2011-12 class of North Carolina Schweitzer Fellows

Three Wake Forest University School of Law students, Alexandra Ford (’12), Michael Grippaldi (’11), and Craig Principe (’12), have been selected for the 2011-2012 North Carolina Albert Schweitzer Fellows program. Law school welcomes the class of 2013

Spouses, children, parents and significant others of first-year law and LLM students enjoyed a welcome picnic in the courtyard of the Worrell Professional Center on Friday, Aug. 13, after a day full of orientation activities, which included computer training.  Dinner was followed by twilight tours of campus led by second- and third-year law students.

Greetings to 1Ls

Last week, the Class of 2008 completed the Law School’s week-long orientation program in preparation for the start of law school classes on August 22.   This outstanding program not only introduces students to essential concepts in Legal Research and Writing but is also dedicated to emphasizing the professional values that are expected of each Wake Forest student and graduate.

Orientation for New Students Emphasizes Professionalism

It is hard to believe, but the new 2004-2005 school year is just around the corner.  By now, most members of the Class of 2007 are settling into Winston-Salem and are anxiously and excitedly awaiting the Law School’s week-long orientation which kicks off on Friday, August 13.  In addition to picking up required laptop computers, books and class schedules, our new students will participate in a rigorous week of legal writing classes and programs designed to assist them with their first steps into legal education and the legal profession.

Law School’s Professionalism Program Recieves ABA’s Prestigious Gambrell Award

Wake Forest University School of Law has been selected by the American Bar  Association to receive the prestigious E. Smythe Gambrell Professionalism Award.  The Gambrell Award is presented by the ABA Standing Committee on Professionalism to bar associations, law schools, law firms, or law related organizations recognizing excellent projects that enhance professionalism among lawyers.  The 2004 award to Wake Forest recognizes the Law School’s comprehensive program and commitment to professionalism.  Dean Robert K. Walsh will accept the Gambrell Award at the upcoming ABA annual meeting at a lunch on August 6 in Atlanta.

First Year Law Students Put Down Books, Pick Up Hammers During Orientation

For the fourth consecutive year, first year students, faculty and staff from Wake Forest School of Law dedicated a portion of orientation week to building homes at a local Habitat for Humanity construction site.  Approximately 200 members of the Law School community wielded hammers, saws, and shovels to clear foundation debris and install sub-flooring at four homes in the 14th Street area of Winston-Salem.  Students worked in shifts over a two-day period to finish these early construction projects, preparing the homes for an intensive Labor Day work effort by other businesses and organizations.
