Remembering Leary Davis (BA ’64, JD ’67)

Leary Davis (BA ’64, JD ’67),  founding dean of the law schools at Campbell and Elon universities, died on July 20, 2017, of leukemia and Hodgkin’s lymphoma at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill. He was 75. He is believed to be the only person to be the founding dean of two law schools, according to news reports. Continue reading »

As a student working in Wake Forest Law’s Elder Law Clinic, Marcus Fields (BA ’10, JD ’16) watched a client struggle to balance his full-time job with overseeing his mother’s care in a local nursing home, while also selling her home in another part of the state. The man made a common error that could have put his mother in danger of being dropped from the Medicaid rolls.

Pro Bono Project establishes Family Preparedness Project

Bilingual Wake Forest Law students volunteered in the Family Preparedness Project, a new initiative led by the Pro Bono Project that seeks to provide durable powers of attorney for individuals in North Carolina who may be at risk of deportation. Student coordinators, Emily Scotton (JD ’18) and Vanessa Garrido (JD ’18), organized client appointments at the Downtown Health Plaza in Winston-Salem over the course of four evenings in April.

Virginia Johnson (JD ‘85) appointed Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of the Office of Fish, Wildlife and Parks

Virginia Johnson (JD ‘85) was recently appointed Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of the U.S. Office of Fish, Wildlife and Parks.

 The Department of the Interior welcomed 19 staff members to spearhead the department throughout the Trump Administration. Newly-appointed positions include Chief of Staff to the Secretary, Associate Deputy Secretary, Principal Deputy Solicitor and two Principal Deputy Assistant Secretaries.
